Khalifa
Objective:
To write a lesson plan for a musical activity and to evaluate your lesson plan.
Scenario:
Khalifa, a three-year-old in your preschool class, is delightful but does not interact often with other students. However, when she hears music, Khalifa becomes animated and starts moving to the music. She obviously loves music and knows a small number of songs. You decide to create a lesson plan that builds on Khalifa’s enthusiasm for music and is designed to encourage her to engage more socially with the other children.
Write a lesson plan for a musical activity to use with your preschool class. In the lesson plan, describe a musical activity that will encourage Khalifa to work with her classmates in one paragraph (social interaction), and then explain how it is developmentally appropriate. You may refer to Figure 17-1: Developmental Characteristics and Musical Experiences.
Be sure to read the SELF-EVALUATION section below to guide your thinking. Write your self-evaluation after you have completed your lesson plan.
For each part of your lesson plan:
Explain how this part addresses the issues in the scenario.
Describe and justify how your lesson plan will improve teaching and learning in the scenario.
